Which OS are you using

I know this is a completely off topic. But i want to know which is more popular,Windows 10 or Windows 77?
I have a computer running Windows 8.1,and i am going to replace it with a new OS,i'm struggling with one of the two.
Meanwhile, please tell me how to install it correctly.
Thanks.

Windows 10, mostly because it came with my computer and it's not worth downgrading. I do think that 7 is the better option if you can choose.

Dual-boot Fedora 27 (overdue for an upgrade), Windows 7 (upgrade over my dead body).

Don't bother with Windows 7. Support will end on January 14, 2020. That's about 5 months from now. Just go straight to Windows 10. Mind you that this is coming from a guy that loves Windows 7.

Another alternative would be to try a free Linux distribution like Ubuntu LTS, Linuxmint LTS, Fedora, or Debian.

I use Windows 10, Debian, & Fedora.

Dual boot - Windows 10 for work and Ubuntu 18 for play.

I made the jump from Windows 7 to 10 very recently. So far, so good. It sorted out major pains that I had with a VPN connection.

I've been a happy LinuxMint user for many years. I'm still using version 17, and will be making the long-overdue jump to version 19.2 soon.

You can make windows 10 look and work like Windows 7. So that's what I'm doing when support for my Windows 7 dies.

Plus there is a way to get rid of Windows 10 crapware

Three years ago when my Windows 7 tower was really showing it's age, I made the decision to buy a Mac Mini rather than upgrade to another Windows machine. I have no regrets at all. I'm currently running macOS Mojave.

I recently bought Windows 10 USB or DVD packages for all my desktops and laptops.

I'll probably wait until the last minute to upgrade from Windows 7...

Every time Microsoft forces me to upgrade I say this is the last time!

five machines running XP (some with valuable 8-bit DOS applications that I've been using for thirty years), four with Win-7, one Win-10. I wish I still had my Commodore-64. I wonder if I could pick up a good, used IBM System-370 machine with MVS and a license for PL/1? Remember when you had to calculate the proper blocksize for the data given the fact that there are only 32768 bytes per track on the disk drives?

I've still got all the distribution disks for several versions of DOS, IBM-OS/2, Windows 2000, Windows 95, & 98. The only reason for switching from DOS to Windows was printer drivers. As Gollum said, "We hates it forever."

Sigh... I'm going to join @PaulH in the Linux world, next. Have to: Windows-10 is not a usable operating system by my lights.

I'd dearly love to kiss Micro$oft goodbye and migrate everything over to Linux.
My computer needs are relatively simple and I require no particular MS software.

However my several older film scanners don't have available Linux drivers.
AFAIK Vuescan does offer Linux support, but I prefer simpler editing software.

I'm using Windows 7 as my main OS, with Windows 10 as a dual boot just to remind myself now and then how much I hate it. But I've got swappable hard disks, so I run Ubuntu too when it's the best tool for a particular job.

I'm only still using Windows at all because I can't get Photoshop running with enough stability under wine on Ubuntu, and I really don't want to learn a new photo editing process. Although if somebody can recommend a Photoshop-like Linux alternative, based on layers and allowing .dcp profiles at the raw conversion stage, I'd definitely give it a try. But .dcp profiles are an absolute must, because custom profiles are fundamental to the way I shoot.

In the long run, I think running Photoshop in a Windows 7 virtual machine under Ubuntu as the host OS is probably my best bet. But it'll mean a hardware upgrade first.

I run Win 10 everywhere. The file explorer in Win 7 is not multithreaded for starters, doesn't suit an amateur photographer like myself who is constantly copying files and folders between drives, SD cards and across a LAN.
