There are programs that will search the internet for images posted by a particular camera. Recommend giving one a try. Here is an example: https://www.stolencamerafinder.com. I've never used this program. Hope the owner recovers the equipment.

today I hear abaout the Pentax 645 again.
A photographer from "Hessen" Germany by the camera at second-hand market in Leipzig. After he read about the stolen camera in the internet he call the police and give back the camera and the lenses .
He had payed 3000 Euro for all. Now he loose his money. The camera is back at his real owner.

Photographer Gary Fraley recently recovered his stolen gear via 500px thanks to Lenstag. Fraley, who runs a nonprofit which aims to use art to help end hunger, had his house broken into late last year and his camera equipment stolen.

He received an alert from Lenstag saying that his stolen camera had been used to take a picture posted on 500px.com. He jotted down the photographer's information that was on 500px and called the police.They went over to the thief's house and got Fraley's Nikon D300s, a 50mm lens, an 18-55mm lens, an SB-700 flash, and the battery grip back. Lenstag founder Trevor Sehrer explained, "The guy who had obtained the stolen gear said that his cousin had stolen it and right now police are looking for him."

Why should I register my gear before it gets stolen?

The first few hours after a theft are absolutely critical to getting the word out & preventing resale of the stolen gear. If your gear is already registered, then you just have to sign in & flag the items as stolen (and optionally provide additional information).

If you wait until after your gear is stolen, you'll have to add the gear, verify it with something else other than a picture of the serial number and wait a day or two for someone at Lenstag to approve the verification request. By then the gear has probably been pawned or sold and the chances of successful recovery are substantially lower.
