What's it take to get on your "ignore user" list?

.
I like it that this forum allows you to block forum members via an "ignore user" list.

There are times when a member asks me a technical question, and I respond with a detailed message that took me a fair bit of time to compose. If that member does not thank me for the effort, I'll put them in my "ignore list". Did that just last week when a member asked me about installing a Leitax adapter on a specific lens, and didn't bother to respond to my lengthy and detailed response.

1. Do you regularly use the "ignore member" list?

2. What would prompt you to put someone on your ignore list?

3.How could the current ignore user protocol be improved?
.

In eleven and a half years I have added only 33 Users to my Ignore List. Very few are currently active posters. Universally they are members who have an unreasonably disparaging opinion about Pentax cameras or a feature of them, and obstinately refuse to be swayed by reasonable explanations - example: repeatedly complaining the camera will not operate properly below -20o Fahrenheit. In addition they tend to make these opinions known on any and all threads regardless of the subject. When it gets tiresome I BoriscletoTM them. Unfortunately some threads are then repeatedly interrupted by the entry

until I became a moderator here, I maintained a substantial ignore list....

how did you get on that list?

- constant rant/berating about what Ricoh/Pentax has or has not done to earn your money

- belittling other users on the forum

- foul disposition, etc...

at the time that I deleted the list, I probably had 75+ people on it....

Regularly, no. I once had 1 member on my list for 4 days just get a break from them.

Probably having no respect for the opinions they CONSTANTLY spout. Disagreements are human nature, and when done properly with respect, are a sign of a healthy debate. Bullies and trolls are definitely " ignore list fodder. "
Hearing a different opinion to mine is good. That's how I learn.

I feel that it works pretty well. Everyone has different levels of what annoys them, so to each his/her own.
One thing I would suggest, just as an idea though, is give ALL members on ALL ignore lists a 2nd chance. Some people DO change. Maybe once a year, UNignore the member and see if their posts have changed in their tone. If no change, straight back on the list !!! Some members might surprise you with their change of attitudes.

EDIT - None on my list now.

I've only rarely used the ignore list - it's currently empty.

The couple of times I have used it, it's been temporary. I did BoriscletoTM one popular member here for a while because that person has a pugnacious attitude.

In general, though, I'm more likely to take a break from the forum than ignore people. There's always the DPR comment section to get my kicks!

I don't have anyone on my ignore list. I don't even know how to do it . I understand people have their own opinions. Sometime I am ok with it, sometime not. But they are opinion on internet. I don't really care much. If it is too much, I will let the admin deal with it. and I usually forget about it the next time I log in. I block handful of spammer on Instagram but not here because I use IG as a catalog for what I am doing. I don't want Spammer try to harass my other good followers.

I only have a few on my ignore list and they are mainly people who irritate me. Mostly people who leave Pentax for other brands, but return to (a) tell us how awesome their new cameras are (usually not posting photos) and (b) pop up frequently in various threads telling how Pentax is doomed and needs to do a variety of things to fix the situation.

Otherwise, I really am glad to hear everyone's opinion.

For a very short time, before I took on moderating duties, I had a very small ignore list... but I was too curious and kept unignoring folks In any case, more often than not their posts were quoted further down in the threads, so I saw what they were posting anyway. Plus, even those few members I found difficult to co-exist with usually had something valuable to add, and I didn't want to miss out on that. So, I got rid of my ignore list altogether.

As a mod, I see (or, rather, I can see) all posts, and those that other members might ignore are often the very ones I should be keeping an eye on. Honestly, though, here are times when it would be nice to see only the friendly, constructive, fun, community-oriented posts and switch off the unnecessary noise...

Where's Boris?

I've personally never used the ignore function- I don't see the point - I read what interests me and don't read what doesn't - I prefer M mode to A mode
