a new limited product that I hope is never repeated: Edible Scotch Whisky Pods

Edible Scotch Pods Cause ‘a Bit of a Stir’ With Whisky Fans
Glenlivet’s new cocktail capsules come in small pouches, and you can eat them like grapes. But all people can think about is laundry detergent.

Glenlivet, one of the venerable names in Scotch whisky, experimented with something new this month: a tiny whisky cocktail that comes in a clear, edible packet instead of a glass.

It even came with a hashtag for social media: #noglassrequired. But Twitter users seemed unimpressed, and a little freaked out.

In a video released last week, Glenlivet described the walnut-size pouches as “edible cocktail capsules made from seaweed, meaning no need for a glass, ice or a cocktail stirrer.” . . .

The Glenlivet whisky capsules aren’t trying (yet) to be the next big thing. They are available only until Sunday at Tayer + Elementary, as part of London Cocktail Week. . . .

Our seaweed capsules are a limited London Cocktail Week release & are not available elsewhere.”

don't kid yourself folks, if they think they can make a profit

they will produce and market it

funny they don't identify what the coctail ingrediants might be

what a way to ruin good whisky

Nope!

So if the seaweed packaging doesn't dissolve, is it proper etiquette to fling it back on the tray, or do you politely fold it into a napkin?

I believe you swallow it and it disolves in your body

from the NYT article:

But whisky capsules are meant to be ingested (by people of legal drinking age). You can swallow the clear pouch, which comes from Notpla, a London start-up whose biodegradable packaging products have been used for things like keeping marathon runners hydrated without plastic bottles and paper cups.

Its probably just the whisky, but I might try this if it were a variety pack of beers. I would probably break out a coffee stirrer straw and jab it in the side and drink it like a juice box.

Eating the packaging just doesn't seem right to me.

It is an Interesting item though.

whisky cocktail to me means whisky plus other ingrediants

but then I'm not a bar tender

just a imbiber of good scotch single malt whisky served neat in a brandy glass so you can sample the fumes as your hand warms the glass

Yeah I saw that new product in an article in the English paper, the Daily Mail. I like Glenlivet and actually have about half a bottle that I occasionally have wee drinkie from. I like popping the cork on the beautiful bottle and drinking the amber fluid out of a glass. I'm not a fan of a capsule.

Yeppers. The entire point of Single Malt whiskey is the ritual - the experience - of sampling, savoring and swallowing. It’s more about the aroma than anything else. Why on earth would someone choose to swallow a Tide Pod filled with fine Scotch?

Pods?Yuck!

A lot of whiskys benefit from the addition of a small measure of water to reinvigorate them(definitely not ice).

One old Scots guy on reaching 100 years of age was asked what he attributed his longevity to.

His reply

“Never drink your whisky without water and never drink water without whisky!”

For those who want fumes, look for the new whisky vape pods
