Oh, that's sad, sad news. Do you have the serial numbers?
There are services online that alert you when an image with your camera's serial number are uploaded, although I'm not sure of their effectiveness, but there have been cases of success.
Contact the police, they should open a case and once you've tracked down your camera they can look further into it.
You can also use filters searching for these specific items on auction sites and check the serial numbers if they are visible, or if the gear has recognizable scratches or marks.

Had my rental car in Oakland broken in to, full of my Pentax gear. They got into the trunk, but didn't take anything. I'm assuming someone else scared them off.

I think it's important to never open your trunk in the same area you plan on parking in (we failed at that this time, as we put a couple of things in the trunk when we parked it).

The thieves were probably Canikon snobs.

Sorry about the OP's gear.

That sucks. I had all my tools stolen from the boot of my car once. Now I don’t leave anything in the car I don’t want stolen.
Interestingly enough, our work laptops are not covered by insurance if they are stolen from a car

Sorry to hear this.

If you have homeowners or renters insurance it may cover the loss. I think you need to file a police report before the insurance company will handle the claim.

check with your agent

I believe it would be under your auto policy since the equipment was taken from your vehicle - if it is business equipment, it would not be most likely

biggest problems might be proving you owned it and its replacement value

Really sorry to hear that.

But yeah, document what you have while you can. It will make it easier to file an insurance claim, and the chance of getting some of the gear back might go up from zero to slim.

That really sucks indeed. Also one of the reasons i got separate insurance for my cameras. The normal insurance would only cover upto 1500 and the gear is worth a tiny bit more then that.
