Losing 7-0 to the Philth and Lindor's defense this year has been pretty bad... maybe not wringing my hands, but they are gettig twitchy.

My Red Sox are in a race to the bottom it seems. The one bright spot was watching Shohei Ohtani deliver a once in a lifetime performance, truly a marvel of a player.
I saw part of the game this afternoon. Ohtani was great. Hard to believe the Sox are struggling offensively with that top of the batting order.

Well, the Mets scored 7 in the 9th to rally for the win, so I guess I should calm down.

Opps. My bad

not to rub it in but according to my source, these 6 teams have not won a World Series yet :

the Rockies [ since 1993 ], Brewers [ as Seatle Pilots 1969, Brewers as of 1970 ], Padres [ 1969 ], Rays [ 1998 ], Rangers [ as Washington Senators 1969, Rangers as of 1972 ], and Mariners [ 1977, haven't even qualified yet ]

Sad that Steve Goodman didn't live to see his beloved Cubs win the World Series...

thanks for that

he could write songs

QuoteQuote:
. . . And he was a massive Chicago Cubs baseball fan. He wrote two songs for his favorite team. One was the hilarious "A Dying Cubs Fan Last Request," whose narrator ultimately envisions his ashes scattered around Wrigley Field. For the other, he wrote a radio jingle for them.

It was a song called - "Go, Cubs, Go."

The song was written before the 1984 season began, when WGN radio asked Goodman to write something for them that could begin their broadcast. (If one listens closely, you can hear one of the lines, "Baseball time is here again / You can catch it all on WGN.") . . .

Steve Goodman had leukemia, and though it went into remission, he always kept it a secret. . . . after over seven years of remission, when most cases are thought to be gone - it so sadly returned. And in 1984, the same year he wrote "Go, Cubs, Go," Steve Goodman died at the ridiculously too-young age of 36.

It was then that people discovered "A Dying Cubs Fan's Last Request" was autobiographical.

He was scheduled to sing the National Anthem before the Cubs' very first post-season playoff game in 39 years. But he died 11 days earlier. His friend Jimmy Buffett performed it instead, dedicating his performance to Steve Goodman.

And then, just like in his song, the Chicago Cubs ballclub allowed his ashes to be spread at Wrigley Field. That's how beloved he was by the team, even back in 1984. . . . .

[ didn't see it live but just saw replay ]

How to make your first MLB AB unique

1 tell the starting catcher you would hit a HR in your first MLB AB

2 get selected by manager to pinch hit in the late innings

3 on 3 - 2 count, hit your HR [ out of Wrigley Field onto Waveland Avenue ]

4 start your celebration as you go toward to first base, and then miss first base bag

5 stop, go back, and step on the first base bag before proceeding to second base and then 3rd base and then Home plate

That is what Cubs' rookie Christopher Morel did last night in his first MLB game

[ video here ]

PS - this is the player who, trying to catch a bus after an instructional league game, ran through a plate glass door, suffering injuries which threatened any chance to play baseball at any level

Fun fact: today Albert Pujols grounded into his 415th career double play, 65 more than the next player (Cal Ripken Jr.)

Glad to see Nick Pivetta pitch through 9 innings for a winning game against a top team. I'm even happier to see him given the chance rather than go to the bullpen and risk a loss.

Looks like Trevor Story has finally come alive for the Sox.
