Do you mean the marketers of physical media? FWIW, Sony Music is second only to Games & Network Services as a profit machine for Sony Corp and is twice as profitable as Imaging & Sensor Solutions. Recording artists are getting a minute fraction of the recording industry's revenue, that hasn't changed since Thomas Edison was grooving with wax cylinders.

Music from many artists especially those on small labels isn't even available for download.
Fortunately the technology and cost to manufacture CDs and LPs isn't out of reach anymore.

The CDs I buy from independent labels today cost the same - in todays dollars - as I paid for major labels CDs 20 years ago.
The artists are getting more of the proceeds and I'm no longer paying for the corporate promotion machine.

I really don't care much about the record companies. I suspect they will survive. Whether the artists and songwriters will do better in the age of streaming is a big question. Some have been very vocal about how they don't like streaming. I still buy an occasional CD but as Chris, they are from independent artists and I usually buy them at one of their shows if I like their music.

CDs may be doomed. LPs are currently experiencing a resurgence.

Well I have been collecting "records" albums, vinyl since the early 70s then CDs came out and I sold all my albums (bad choice) and bought CDs, then was climbing around in my attach and found my old Pioneer turn table, ahhh I said, got it down and it still worked, so went to Barns & Knoble to buy an album, the Beatles White album was $40. Put the turn table away and now down load music and put it on my Sony digital Walkman. Go figure.
