An update to my previous post. NY has now enforced the out of state quarantine on jockeys at Saratoga. Barn workers are supposed to stay on the grounds for the season. Most of them are migrants who travel around the country from one horse track to another. No spectators are allowed and yesterday, they covered a few hundred yards of chain link fencing along Nelson Ave. with opaque material to prevent spectators from hanging out on the sidewalks and watching the races. Supposedly, online betting has been good but that doesn't help local merchants who rely on the track and the tourists who come for much of their yearly income. The towns and county are loosing millions of sales tax revenue.

Some locals are happy the tourists aren't coming and bringing the virus with them while others are angry and upset as they have lost jobs and income and don't know how they will make it through the winter.

“I feel like it’s March all over again,” said William Hanage, a professor of epidemiology at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. “There is no way in which a large number of cases of disease, and indeed a large number of deaths, are going to be avoided.”
The problem facing the United States is plain. New cases nationally are up a remarkable 50% over the last two weeks and the daily death toll is up 42% over the same period. Cases are on the rise in 40 out of 50 states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico. Last week America recorded more than 75,000 new cases daily – five times the rate of all Europe.
“We are unfortunately seeing more higher daily case numbers than we’ve ever seen, even exceeding pre-lockdown times,” said Jennifer Nuzzo, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. “The number of new cases that occur each day in the US are greater than we’ve yet experienced. So this is obviously a very worrisome direction that we’re headed in.”
People keep making these excuses, and the virus doesn’t care about the excuses. The virus just keeps going. If you give it the opportunity, it will take it.”

'The virus doesn't care about excuses': US faces terrifying autumn as Covid-19 surges | World news | The Guardian

Meanwhile in Europe we have the UK on rank 189 out of 192 countries worldwide with regards to Covid-19 deaths per 100,000 population (68 dead/100k). Spain at rank 187 with 60 dead/100k and Sweden (54 dead/100k) which has chosen a very special path now is closing in on Italy (58). The USA is ranked 182 with 42 dead/100k.
Finland, a neighbor to Sweden, for example is at 6 dead/100k. All this just to put things into global perspective.

As much as it pains me, I must spend my morning policing the conversation. Once again, people are sucked down the politics rabbit hole.

When a thread starts to go astray with a few posts we try to get it back on track as we have had to do numerous times in this thread due to some political commentary popping up but the thread has now jumped the shark.
7 of the last 7 posts (that's 100% of the posts in the last 4 days) had to be deleted for politics, and posts insulting essentially everyone who thinks differently than the poster. It's no longer a thread to share information and concerns. It's become a political and moral soapbox.
It's outlived it usefulness.

Say good night, Gracie
