Very good!

My pipe major actually sent out an email this morning about cancelled band practice, ending it with "There is no instrument as successful at getting social isolation than the bagpipes."

is a 10 foot pole not the traditional tool to use for distancing yourself from something ?

Its all too technical for me. When the line at the checkout gets too long, I just start coughing.

As those of you who have seen my 'jokes' will know, my sense of humour is sufficient to ensure I enjoy plenty of space.

BTW, I actively enjoy the music of the pipes. My day is complete when I find a piper entertaining passers-by - sadly, a most uncommon occurrence in Norwich.

I once drove 75 miles Upstate to The Towne Crier to see The Battlefield Band.
My wife was literally driven to tears by the amplified highland pipes.
We had to leave immediately.

My mother-in-law was piped by my brother-in-law’s best friend at her memorial service (Flower of Scotland, then Going Home). People left well before the Recessional because they were afraid they would hear the instrument again.

I think Mark Twain's famous quote about banjos applies equally to bagpipes!

Not sure what is with all the hate for pipes in the world, they're a beautiful instrument... I may be a bit biased though...

I like the sound of the pipes, at the appropriate volume. I really can't imagine them needing much amplification, their natural volume is part of the reason they were used in battles. Even brass instruments are naturally loud.

The Murphys were without a piper on St. Patrick's Day

He was still in Florida with his family.

No links (because of the high probability that the following statements are completely false), but apparently the ancient Pict warriors ran into battle completely naked, covered with chalk to make themselves look like ghosts. When Roman auxiliaries were able to coax these ancient Scots to come out of the forest and fight, hordes of naked, screaming Scotsmen were no match for Roman cavalry. On the other hand, legionaries were extremely reluctant to venture into the dark Caledonian woods, so after 400 years of light skirmishing, the Romans left on their own accord.

The first reference to Scottish Highlanders using bagpipes in anger is the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh, approximately 1400 years after Hadrian's Wall was built. Who knows how world history might have been changed if Scots had been less reticent about keeping their clothes on and started squeezing air bladders to make it sound like the screams of tortured demons in order to frighten the daylights out of their enemies?
