Pfizer's COVID vaccine candidate shown to be 90 percent effective in early findings
Both of these vaccines are going to work on synthesized proteins that look like the spike protein on the COVID capsule. Hopefully this means the end of the pandemic is coming in sight...
Small correction: it's technically BioNTech's vaccine, Pfizer is bringing the manufacturing and clinical trial muscle (which is no small thing by itself - it requires a lot of infrastructure and brainpower!). First mRNA vaccine to be on the path to approval. If it works well, it could pave the way for cheaper (and, potentially, with lower side effects) vaccines being available for many other diseases.
It is very good news indeed, with the usual caveats of long term side effect study, rollout difficulties, population resistance and blablabla, but it is very encouraging to see some light at the end of the tunnel.
