why can't we dig a tunnel to UK ?

That case is an exception I'm sure otherwise it wouldn't be newsworthy.
One of the reasons that there is a shortage of social housing now is mostly due to the Thatcher years.
This woman and the council that is paying her rent are playing by the rules though.
It's not right but what is right in this world.
If you read the article it does also say that the house was valued at a million at the height of the housing boom, ie not now, I'm sure the part that says what the average price is comes from current figures. London is also the most expensive place to live in the UK.
Don't forget also that the media sensationalise things to sell newspapers.

It also pales into comparison when compared to the financial system bailout.

Aye. From what I've seen, the average British tabloid is like Fox News run by 13-year-olds.

At least you get tits on page 3 and 5 11 etc. The tits you want to look at not the other kind they leave that to fox News.
