That is a new one. I wonder if it was a cross-town deal?

Steve
Tracking started again this morning more or less. It traveled from PA to East Syracuse, NY. Says it's scheduled for delivery Tuesday, but if it's in Syracuse it's about 2 or 3 miles from my house now. But the tracking isn't any more detailed than In transit...

My address wasn't "verified" at Target, I "verified" it this morning and an hour or two later the package showed up in the UPS system...

First time I've seen this from UPS. So I get no tracking? Thanks UPS.
UPS quality has dipped this year I think. I've had packages for them to pick up and they never showed up. When I called them they said the task was completed and the only thing I could do was purchase another package pickup

I see this posted to Facebook earlier and that person added a third step.

3. I can't find it because it was hidden in the bushes to prevent other people from seeing it.

I wasn't mad at all. My late grandfather was a Postmaster.

1. Scanned once in a group, partially completed by Tour 3.

2. <SHIFT CHANGE>

3. Scanned again by Tour 1, completing that group.

The handheld scanners used cannot distinguish unscanned barcodes
from those already scanned, so apparent duplicate scans may occur.

makes sense now thanks

a few years ago, Topeka, the State Capital, lost its USPS " sorting " facility

now any mail being sent across town has to be collected, sent to Kansas City ( MO/KS ? ) and then returned to Topeka and sent out for delivery

( if you want to deliver it yourself, you cannot leave it in a mail box without postage or postmark )

before it would have been " sorted " here in Topeka and then out for delivery

I have " automatic " signature om file with USPS for delivery of packages when I am not home

last time I had a camera delivered, the local mailman left me a note: " could not deliver needed signature "

I actually chased him down to get the camera and was told that he is never told if there is an " automatic " signature on file so he cannot just leave the package

yet I could not do what those who work at the USPS do

for 99 % of the time, no real problem with the US mail

Package #2 priority 2 day mail. Finally delivered 15 days later. 15 days is when you can file an insurance claim for lost packages... interesting coincidence.

.
My "media mail" and "1st Class" seem to be slower than usual. "Priority Mail" seems to be mostly on schedule. International mail these days is a crap shoot, with one of my packages to Poland taking over 3 months to arrive there.

My local postman complains about 12 hour days and being really tired.

With everyone buying on-line during Covid, I doubt that the crush of mail will significantly subside after the first of the year. Maybe the mail service should hire more workers (millions of unemployed workers to pick from)?

Also, if the USPS is so financially in the red, I think they should charge more for stamps/shipping. I'm still amazed at how in-expensive it is to ship packages great distances! A real bargain if you ask me.

I certainly don't envy the postal workers. A good friend of mine is a FedEx driver and gets ground down hard in December. He's young and energetic with no kids though.

As far as shipping costs, if they were substantially more, it would really change the online sales market. I already don't sell privately to Canadians because the offers they give me are lowballed due to their shipping and duty and exchange costs.

Many consumers gripe about the cost of postage, especially when rates are increased, usually by a few pennies.

Prices are set by the US government Postal Rate Commission.

Anybody who thinks USPS is expensive should check their rate for a package then check the rate for the same package via FedEx Ground to a residential address.

I have noticed the same thing. Usps packages only taking 3 days are sometimes taking 10 days.
