Our county even had their fair this year.

This past week, we had about 10 cases per 100,000 residents and a ‘positivity rate’ of about 1.3%
My wife and I have been fully vaccinated since March, and I do feel fairly safe.
The state releases weekly stats every Wednesday.
The stats released this Wednesday don't look as good as those released last week: cases per 100,000 more than doubled to 22, and 'positivity' is up to 1.4.

Last Friday - the time covered by those stats - we went to the "Horse and Pony" show at the Fair.
I did photograph some of the contests - and learned where I'll try to sit next year.
I also learned I'm too old to carry my KP the whole way from home to the fair and back home; next time I'll take just the Q-7 kit - the "Horse&Pony" has mostly fixed points of interest, so I may even get by with adopted lenses that I have to manually focus.

Thanks for the article, "The quest to find genes that drive severe COVID", @Rondec, that's really interesting and something I hadn't known about.

Here's a bit of interesting reading on masks and especially around effectiveness if used correctly: https://files.fast.ai/papers/masks_lit_review.pdf

Got my appointment for 24 August for my first jab.
Currently in lock down in Sydney, Australia due to the Delta variant in the community.
Very worrying times.

The anchor on CNN tonight reported that we have now reached the point where the percentage of residents of Canada who are "fully vaccinated" is slightly more than the percentage of residents of the US who are "fully vaccinated". I won't say any more, because I'm sure that would upset a whole army of mods.

Canada has announced that as of Aug 9, a fully-vaccinated US citizen can cross the border - no news guaranteeing that we can get back.

Good news. Perhaps we can travel to Canada in the fall as we had planned each of the past two years.

Here's the official announcement on the Canada government website:

Sorry Aussies! Quarantine free travel to NZ has been canned, for at least 8 weeks.

I wish NZ and Australia had been a little more aggressive at getting vaccines out. I read that just over 12 percent of the NZ populace was vaccinated right now. Maybe it doesn't feel pressing because you all have been able to get things under control without vaccines, but it also leaves you in a precarious position of having to be constantly vigilant that someone doesn't bring in the Delta strain by accident.

In the US, 97% of those tested positive of Covid are unvaccinated, and over 99% of Covid deaths are amongst the unvaccinated.

Interesting. I continue to receive messages that I will soon die because of the vaccine - me and another billion people.

One of the serious consequences of being stupid enough to be vaccinated is that you become magnetic.

If u want to enjoy the sturdy construction of ltds u may want to hold off.

For any rational person this should be enough impetus to get vaccinated.

Yet the huge numbers of vaccine hesitant persist...
