My dad worked there for a few years, and I always regret not going over there to see him. Partly because I knew how goddamned expensive it was - especially compared to Thailand, where I've visited several times - and how bored I'd get.

Dubai, though, I'd have to say, is one of the more progressive Middle Eastern nations. This hotel might seem extravagant (ok, it is extragavant) but they're smart in expanding into tourism. The UAE seems to know that the gas will run out. Tourism, and US ports.

And remember where Pentax launched the K20D...

It was pretty sad though for China, to see their Olympic Fireworks being overclassed by the UAE.

On the other hand: most fireworks will have been produced in China I think.

Some base jumpers also made history doing the highest jump over there too.
