They call him El Mago, but this wasn't magic from Javy Báez as much as it was comically bad fielding by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

40 second video in article, the announcers on the video are the Cubs announcers

I was watching the live broadcast with the Pittsburgh Pirates announcers doing the play by play

and I could not believe what I was seeing

I think the best part is when Baez signals " safe " as Contreras scores before Baez takes off for first base for the second time

Baez then scored when the next batter got a single

You won't often see a batter run back to home plate, nor a first baseman try to chase him.

Nor the baserunner signaling the runner attempting to score is safe at home before the baserunner then runs to first base

In a play filled with inexplicably bad decision-making, the Pirates still could have simply gotten out of it when they had Javier Baez at home plate. If the Pirates tag Baez, even after the Cubs runner crosses home, the run does not count.

I'm a Mets fan since the '80's, so I've seen a superabundance of baseball idiocy, but this play takes the cake.

It's plays like that which make me love the game a little more.
