Holy Cr*p, the economy

Well, 15 years on the job and I felt secure.

No such luck. Major, major cutbacks at my company.

After 15 years, I was the least senior member of management and they got me in this round. Unfortunately for some of my co-workers, this may just be the first round.

Sorry to hear that, mate.

Though if you're desperate for money, please do us all a favour and don't take out a loan you have no hope of paying back .

Very sorry to hear. No-one is safe. My wife is a nurse, and they're cutting nursing staff, something I never thought I'd see - 'nursing shortage' was supposed to last for 20 years. If it can affect front-line healthcare, anything can get hit.

Hang in there.

Frightening really

Ed, so sorry to hear the news. I hope there was some kind of severence package to tide you for a while. What a scary time... Nothing but good luck to you as you head forward.

Many of us are just a pen stroke in some office away from being jobless...

I remember having a conversation when they signed Nafta, and telling my friend that we had better learn how to make baskets because our economy had finally gone from a manufacturing base to a service based economy fueled by consumerism... I joked to him... Welcome to Mexico buddy...

This economy is teetering on the brink... And in reality has been propped up by fake housing value refinancing dollars for a long time...

And I never did learn how to make the 'metaphoric' Basket!

Sorry to hear that Ed, if any condolence i was just talking to someone where people with 20 years got the escort out the door as well. Hope you can jump to something else soon.

I truly believe a lot of company are taking advantage of the "economic crisis" as an excuse to cut back.

I feel for you, Ed. In 2002 after 16 years at the same job I was laid off.
I was out of work for over a year; I had to retrain and change fields.
I had hoped my current job with the US Postal Service would be safe,
but even they are talking layoffs now. Good luck and keep your chin up!

Sorry to hear that Ed - J - I recently read a research report on hospital companies that focused on declining admissions - I never knew how much of the medical economy is elective.

Things should start leveling off late in the Spring and begin turning up late in 2009, but we are in for a decade of slower growth than we are accustomed to.
