Slightly tangential to the original post, but the first crash of the Tour was caused by a 'spectator' who stepped into the path of the peloton, causing three riders to abandon, and one not to start the following day. As their actions have prevented the riders earning for the foreseeable future, I feel they should be prosecuted, heavily fined and hopefully jailed. I am surprised that the other spectators did not prevent them escaping, or the personnel in the team cars.

In England a long time ago, I was at a massed-start race when someone tried to cross the road immediately in front of the bunch. The riders swerved, several crashed, but the idiot appeared to escape unscathed. This was in the days when cyclists used toe-clips, with metal shoe-plates fixed to the soles of their cycling shoes. Strangely, however, when an ambulance arrived to take away the injured riders, it seems that the person who caused it had quite extensive flesh wounds - and do you know, they almost looked as if they could have been caused by being walked on by someone wearing shoes with metal on the soles. Now, I wonder how that could have happened ?

I hope they find her and prosecute her. She was not even watching the race, she was simply trying to get on camera.

I'd be glad for such an arrest. The damage done, not just in euros, but physically and sportively, is huge

I'd be very surprised if a lawyer can be found for the defence. Thanks for the update, Allen.

Lawyers, at least in the US, are required to defend even the most unpopular clients

I had a friend and class mate who won a 1st Amendment case in Alabama

his client the local KKK who wanted to march

my friend is black
