Dang... that is serious!

I was watching with interest on whether or not Nikon's D3 successor would be something else. If it can toe the line on the noise levels as it did with resounding success in the D3 and D700 at high ISO (instead with that 24.5MP resolution), it's surpassed anything previously thought possible.

Same price point as the MK III DS... very interesting!

I am still plenty happy with my K10D, but I like the way the wind is blowing. It is only a matter of a few years and this sort of tool will be affordable and available to the masses. With any luck that future camera may even be a Pentax!

$8,000. Excellence isn't an option at that price point. Did anyone expect something other than a faster, higher-res camera? Or am I missing something?

Sort of like everyone getting excited when Apple releases a new computer. Or, you know, the sun rises in the morning.

Then again, I can be cynical because I can't afford such a beast so I'll never be able to enjoy it. :P

EDIT: On second thought, maybe this is excellent news. If all of those pixels are *good* pixels, this is edging up into medium-format territory. A 35mm sensor will never be as good as a MF sensor, but its about the images, not the method. And if a FX camera from Nikon can compete with medium format, that might mean that Pentax will go for a full-frame camera rather than a medium format. Which would be great because almost all of my glass is from the film days.

It's going to be interesting to see if it's high iso performance has actually lowerd compared to the D700 with all those pixels squeezed in there..

Exactly, only Leica can get away with that price level for a crap camera, Nikon can't.

I think the Sony A900 is raising the bar far more than the D3X.

A lot of people feel the same, even Thom Hogan, the Nikon guy himself.

138Mb RAW files too, at 5+fps equals full card with one press of the shutter button.

Right! 8 grand and you still haven't put a lens on it. Heck, I'd like to own a Ferrari, too, but at some point I have to get real.

The D3x is just the response to Canon's 1DSIII.

Rumor is they will launch the Nikon MX (medium format) in February.

The 70-200 F2.8 VR is selling for under $1800 Canadian around here.

Cheap.

d3x apparently is a bit crap and still beat by the d700 on image quality and overall not enough improvement over the d3.

there is news of a boycott... until the price is slashed at least.
