I was in NYC the past weekend. Glad to see little fall color yet, because I will be back in the area in two weeks and I hope to take full advantage of the autumn leaf 👀 .

Down in the Shenandoah Valley, I haven’t seen color changes yet, but we are usually two weeks behind the states above the Mason-Dixon Line.

I was thinking of you over the three-day weekend, occasionally to rarely. Autumn colors are late this year in MessyChewBits, enough to draw a comment on the local TV news. I've noticed many trees "popping" over the past 48 hours, sadly too late for your family outing. Bad trips do happen (this is not a comment on LSD). M and I were camping in Connecticut on a really hot day. Departing in the morning to do something we left the flaps open on the tent windows to keep the interior from getting too hot. A small thunderstorm with a brief torrential downpour went through while we were away, leaving at least an inch of water inside the tent. If we had been using inflatable cushions under the sleeping bags maybe they would have floated, but no luck. A clammy damp sleep that night.

Normhead recently posted images of some nice color at his location up near Algonquin Park, and mattb123 put up a stunning panorama with plenty of color where he hikes in Colorado.

We too noticed more trees changing on the way home than on the way up.

It was cloudy here all week (prior to our trip) but a little sunnier today.

You can't win 'em all so it's wait till next year time.

Next Fall in Montreal?

Don't fail to consider the Adirondacks as well.

Montreal via Amtrak uses the former New York Central's "Scenic Water Level Route".
The vistas from the train should be quite nice, especially if the trees are changing.
And after relaxing on the train for 10 hours we will be in the lovely city of Montreal!

I rode Amtrak to NYC, I found that the DA 40mm XS allowed me to shoot out of my window and within the coach without hitting other seats or people. You might want a CPL to minimize window reflections. I actually use an extended soft lens hood from Kuvrd that allows me to push it against the glass and cut out reflections entirely so I can take in the views.

I haven't been to Montreal in far too long, that sounds like a wonderful trip. I look forward to seeing the results.

Next year in Montreal?

I'm sending the unused E100 film as a gift to another PF member.
I'll buy fresh stock in 2022 before my next vacation.

FYI: Some good color over the past week near my spot, but also several newsworthy storms that brought the leaves down almost as soon as they were looking photogenic. Overall a disappointing year for Autumn color in MessyChewBits.

Just freeze the film. It will be fine for several years that way.

Compared to last year the colors here in western, NY are not that great this year. Warm and wet weather has everything out of whack this year. We have had the fifth wettest October since they started keeping records back in the mid 19th century.

The Kodak E100 film is already gone, along with ten rolls of expired Tri-X.
I will buy more next year. More slide film sales = more slide films available.

I just booked a lakeside cottage in western Massachusetts for Columbus Day Weekend 2022.
If Amtrak resumes Adirondack service to Canada we may cancel and go to Montreal instead.

For either trip I have acquired a supply of fresh E6 slide film;
2-135 rolls of Kodak Ektachrome E100 film & 2-127 rolls of EZOX Rerachrome 100 slide film.

Chris
