Shipping within Canada vs to the USA ... BIG difference !

Hi folks.

Just a bit of complaining about shipping time within Canada vs shipping from Canada to the USA:

Sent a lens from Québec (Canada) to British Columbia (Canada): expected delivery via "regular shipping" was 3 weeks !!!
I really got worried about this. Who knows? It could have been lost, damaged, sent somewhere else, etc .
Well ... it took 5 weeks!!

Sent another lens, this time from Québec (Canada) to Florida (USA): expected delivery time via "regular shipping": 2 weeks. Why is that? It should actually take longer because of the customs.
The lens actually reached its destination ... in ... 5 Days!!

Go figure!

I assume that you are talking about Canada Post. "Regular" shipping is their lowest-priority service.

I have had fast shipping times with XPresspost, Priority, or Expedited Shipping -- sometimes only a couple of days to other regions of Canada, and fairly quick delivery to US destinations. Of course, it costs more, but it also comes with optional coverage for loss/damage, signature on delivery, and other features.

Overall, our postal rates are higher than in the US, but we have a large land mass but only an eighth of the population. On a positive note, Canada Post and the US Postal Service seem to have a seamless system for cross-border delivery. It's been very good in my experience.

Want faster delivery? Consider using a higher-priority service.

I do know about XPressPost, Priority Post and Expedited Shipping... I've used them all at some point and of course the difference in in rate$$$$ is astronomical.
Fine for very costly items and/or urgent ones but the "regular" shipping is what I'm talking about here and the difference in shipping times between cities in Canada vs between a city in Canada to the USA..

Before Covid CDN regular package delivery was slow with no guarantee in delivery time and no tracking of the package. With Covid there are more workers off sick, some did not get vaccinated and likely let go, and not so long ago there was a massive amount that was back logged. If I am shipping a package then I want a tracking method/number, and a guarantee of how long until delivery. That is what xpress post is for...and the cost in many cases is reasonable within Canada.

Shipping to the US by regular post is hit and miss. If customs thinks it needs to be examined it is going to be delayed and sits in a warehouse for an unspecified time. If it somehow gets lost and no tracking then you will have to put in a search for it. So again, I would not ship a camera or lens unless I can track it.
