Latest Marc Newson design

Disclaimer: I have a K-01 and I love it. I'd gladly part with $$$ for a full-featured, full-frame version!

Now for the news...

Beloved Pentax K-01 designer Marc Newson has a new gig: He's designing a new shotgun for Beretta.

What could possibly go wrong?

Introducing the new 486 by Marc Newson

Just like the K-01, no optical viewfinder. Typical...

Indeed!

And to be honest, the K-01 doesn't bother me at all. It reminds me somewhat of the old Argus C-3, which was an extremely popular film camera!

It begs the question why would the oldest firearms manufacturer utilise a marketing gimmick? It must be because there is a clientele out there shallow enough to be influenced by this gimmick.
Mind you I have a lot to thank Marc for - The K01 attempt was so rejected by the public that I was able to get one at that point that they were ridiculously cheap. What a wonderful technical achievement disastrously presented.

10 years later and the K-01 still looks fresh:

That's the test of good design.

Sorry but that is a test of good aesthetics.
A test of good design is having a mode dial that doesn't fall off whenever it feels like.
Or for that case a shutter button that does the vanishing act.
Never been sure about the fold back rubberised card slot cover but it seems to have stood the test of time.

As I recall, it was just the (aluminium?) cover of the dial that came unstuck... the dial itself remained in place and fully functional. Really, it was just a poor choice of adhesive (though I guess it could be argued it should have been attached some other way, or else the entire dial should have been one solid piece). Regardless, it shouldn't have happened... but we hear of many worse issues with cameras

Yep it is not aperture block for sure!!. But my ol bumblebee looks a bit lame with a black stub there - just as well I am only ever on M!!
Newson's would have only ever been skin deep - just as well that he never got to the internals.

Oh I bet it’s expensive…..

Pretty gun, but I’d have a hard time taking it rabbit hunting.

Indeed!
Having the safety catch on a shotgun fall off could be both annoying and unfortunate
