Steve, May you rest in peace

14 Hours Ago Subject: Steve From: stevebrot (Otis Memorial Pentaxian)
Hi Brad and Dick,

The message is from Steve's sister Julie.

I promised Steve that I would get in touch with his friends on the forum. You were the last to message him so I am writing to you both.

Steve passed away Friday, July 1st. I was with him at the time and he is no longer struggling. Please share this with others that you believe Steve communicated with often.

Steve asked his daughter and I to help manage his cameras, lens, everything collection. I have not yet gone through it and catalog everything. It is overwhelming and he did not provide us with information or guidance so I may be reaching or for assistance if anyone is interested in helping.

My best,
Julie Wilhelmson

Such sad news. Steve was a hugely skilled and experienced photographer who was always happy to share his knowledge with those willing to learn from him. A true gentleman, and an exemplar of how to act with grace and civility in a public forum. This will be a lesser place without him.

RIP Steve.

This is indeed such sad news. Steve was what this forum was all about; sharing knowledge, kindness, and above all respect to all. I always clicked on his posts because I knew I'd acquire more knowledge from him.

Extending comfort to Steve's family.

Rest in Peace Steve, you will always be missed on this forum.

Thanks for sharing even though it's not the message we wanted to hear. I'll miss Steve's insights, he's been a massive contributor to the forums through all my time here.

RIP

As someone who got the message from Steve’s sister I saw the message with the subject “Steve” with dread. I read it last night and I had planned to post about it, but I hadn’t yet found the words. Steve will be missed. I knew him only here, and we had no direct emotional ties. But we shared a passion for cameras and photos and discussion and education and knowledge. We bonded over simply preferring excellence over mediocrity and preferring to be part of the solution rather than simply complaining.

His legacy should be to remind all of us we aren’t going to be here forever. Whatever you plan to do, do it while you can. Find a way to connect with who and what you love, and spend time doing things that fit with that in mind.

Goodbye Steve… I hope your life was as fulfilling to you as it was to us. Thank you for sharing a part of yourself with us. You will be missed.

Goodbye Steve.

RIP

This is a reminder that I need to document my photographic gear so our daughters will know what they are working with.

I’m sad to hear this news, even though Steve had told us it was a matter of time. I’ll miss him too.

My condolences to his family and close friends.

I knew it was coming but am still at a loss. Steve contributed to the content of this forum from its inception. He did so with an even keel and kindness and will be missed.

Steve was one of the first that I interacted with in this community. His knowledge, willingness to help, ability to know what and when to contribute, all made him an outstanding member of our group.

Today I shed a tear for you my friend. May eternity be all you had hoped it would be.
