Help.....need an IT expert - is my keyboard possessed?

I bought a Lenovo keyboard a while ago but it's always done some really weird stuff when I try and type on it and it's driving me absolutely insane. If I try and type something like, "Carl", I end up with this sort of thing Cccaaaaaaarrrrrlllllllllllll even though I might only type a single letter. When I let go of a key the thing just enters letters without me touching the keyboard. If I try and backspace or delete a letter/s there's a pause and then it starts deleting everything I've typed. It does seem to calm down after a while but surely it shouldn't do this sort of crazy stuff. It makes trying to enter anything a nightmare.

Have I just got a dud keyboard or is there something wrong with the computer itself. Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks.

You can soon answer that question. Borrow another keyboard, or buy another if only for the test. Ebay is awash with used ones as people abandon PCs for smartphones, you could probably get one for 99 pence. Even cheap new ones can be had for about £3.50 (in the UK at least).

Anyway, I'd put money on your keys sticking. Keyboard quality has been a race to the bottom, with once good names like Lenovo being hired to whatever Chinese factory bids the highest this week. I'm still using my 40 year old keyboard.

Windows or some other OS? Can't help you if not on Windows.

Windows:

If the keyboard does this all the time you may need to use the Onscreen Keyboard using the mouse for the other procedures.
Use the On-Screen Keyboard (OSK) to type

Try Adjusting the auto repeat function.
click on search near the Start button and type "keyboard"
Open the Keyboard control panel
Move the Delay slider towards the left (Long).

You may need to re-install or update the keyboard driver:
Redirecting

Otherwise try another keyboard.

Echo those comments. Keyboards are pretty cheap nowadays so doesn't make sense to struggle with a duff one. If you want a quality one, Logitech and (dare I say it) Microsoft can't be beaten and not even that expensive.
