USA Phone Number

Hi,

I have been given the following phone number in the USA.

1516888309.

I have tried ringing it, from Australia, without any success.

Would I be missing something, please?

Regards,
Gordon.

If you didn't, you need to prefix it with the Australian exit code (the + sign if calling from a cell phone, or 0011, I think, from a landline).

The number isn't right nixxo above is correct that US numbers have the area code plus seven digits -- (xxx) xxx-xxxx. Yours is one digit short and so won't go through as written.

Yes, 10 digits are normally required in USA, not counting the sometimes used 1 prefix.

Area code 516 is Nassau County, on Long Island in New York USA.

I would be surprised if they had an 888 telephone exchange there;
the 888 area code is normally used for toll free calls in USA.

I found references to the 888 exchange in area code 516 in a reverse lookup, but as you point out, a valid number for North America would have 10 digits, not including the 1 (which is the international country code for North America or the long distance calling code within North America). If the OP was given a phone number for a person or business in Nassau Country, Long Island, New York, then it would probably be worthwhile trying to find out what the correct number is, otherwise it was never legitimate to begin with.
