Panasonic G1 review

Has anyone else also read the Panasonic G1 review at DPR? What strikes me is the resolution figures achieved by this camera.

G1
Absolute/Extinction
Horizontal LPH: 2350/2700
Vertical LPH: 2300/2550

In comparison:

K20D
Absolute/Extinction
Horizontal LPH: 2250/2400
Vertical LPH: 2250/2400

Nikon D300
Absolute/Extinction
Horizontal LPH: 2200/2600
Vertical LPH: 2100/2600

Nikon D700 (full frame)
Absolute/Extinction
Horizontal LPH: 2200/2600
Vertical LPH: 2200/2650

Sony A900 (full frame)
Absolute/Extinction
Horizontal LPH: 2700/3700
Vertical LPH: 2700/3700

Pretty impressive for the small 4/3 sensor? I wonder, what to expect from the next Samsung/Pentax sensors?

Panasonic makes really nice P&S and with the G1 is making the push into the serious amateur market. I would say they can give Canon a good run in those markets with what they have out right now.

in my opinion the G1 should techinicaly be the entry level DSLR killer. Its small enough to not freak out P*S users, yet the quality is matched to any other DSLR

where they will falter however, is niche photographers that want wide angles and shallow depth of fields

but the more i spend time on these boards the more i realize there are very, very few of us.

i will not be surprised at all if Nikon or Canon adopt similar approaches to entry level units some time in the near future, the people who this is targeted at simply wont know the difference, except that they wont have a bulky camera in their hands.
