Ever notice...

Those often reoccurring "headlines" on such homepages as Yahoo, MSN, etc that read in some form "World's Oldest Woman Dies" or World's Oldest Man Dies"? I mean, how long does one retain that title anyway and why is it news when they die?

I think one retains the title just long enough for the headline to be printed.

Because otherwise, logically, the title is nonsensical. You can't be "the world's oldest" if you're dead, can you?

What bugs me is how people say they've had a "near miss". It's actually a "near hit" and a complete miss. Logically speaking.
