The Day the Music Died!

February 3rd 1959 was the Day the Music Died.

Buddy Holly passed into eternity but left us some of the most timeless and awe insiring music.

It is 50 years since he left us. His influence on so many of Rocks greatest artists is beyond measure. So as you go about your day today give a thought and a prayer to Buddy. Thank you!

We also lost Richie Valens and The Big Bopper (J. P. Richardson) on that day.

Waylon Jennings (RIP), who at that time, was Holly's Bass Player gave up his seat on the plane to Richardson because he was ill with a cold and didn't want to ride the bus.

Jennings and Holly kidded with each other about Jennings decision to give up his seat. Holly told Jennings, "I hope your ol' bus freezes up!" and Jennings replied, "Yeah? Well I hope your ol' plane crashes!"

In an interview, some 40 years later, Jennings still felt a heavy guilt about his comment and decision.

My CD pouch is full of Buddy Holly CDs today. Am listening to "The Chirping Crickets" right now while I am working. I love that music.

Only 22

And Buddy was only 22 years old.

Not many 22 year olds have had that much influence on the world of music.

Buddy Holly came way before my time. I shall have to look into this more. He may yet gain another fan. Posthumously.

Thanks for reminding me about today. I thought I was the only old fart that liked Hollys music.
Was in the 9th grade that day. Lord, I'm getting old.

Well I wasn't even born yet but I still love their music. (I came along later that year, so I've been told)
Kent, you've always been old. We all knew it, bout time you realized it.

Never really got much into Buddy Holly, but I can't deny the influence he had on the future generations of musicians - especially John Lennon, and eventually The Beatles
