Barney Fife to the rescue

Yeah, I know. Another political thread. Well they will probably pass the stimulus package with all the condoms and tax breaks for those that don't even pay taxes but here's the kicker. We are in a time of military turmoil with the economy in the toilet. So what does the Annointed One decide to do? Let's cut the military spending 10%. Our guys can be like Barney Fife and have one bullet. Sounds like what Clinton did. And how many people will get laid off because of those cutbacks? Better yet, how many of our loved ones will die because they don't have the right equipment or enough of it to do their job. Yep.

Let's look at the bright side... At least we'll have the terrorists to deal with in our own back yard instead of some nasty foreign country. I'm so happy that the first (and really, only) course of action that has actually been initiated at this point was to eliminate the terrible conditions that we've exposed these kind mass murderers to. That just wasn't fair.

Yeah and what about the SCHIP? Who's going to pay for that now that it's passed (gas). Smokers of course. But they want smokers to quit, so they say. Yeah right. That's their cash cow. And you think it's for Children? Well through the loopholes over 18 can actually get in on it if they qualify. And legal aliens without a waiting period. So what next? The illegals? Sorry Undocumented Residents. What they ought to do is have a national lottery to pay for it all. Like Florida did. Yeah, the Florida Lottery was supposed to be an "enhancement" to education. They advertise how many billions of dollars have gone to education. They don't tell the rest of the story though. Like how much they took out of the general fund that was supposed to go to education. So the lottery pays for all of it.

And the Crapulus Package the The Annointed One wants passed so fast. tax breaks for those that don't even pay taxes? And all the other pork like condoms and garbage like that in it.
This will cost more than the bailout that was suposed to be 700B and made it to 850. Just what we need right now.

Well, here's another great part. The Obama Christ wants to have Michigan's lovely governer to oversee the national economy. Now that's a great idea. The governer of the worst state for unemployement overseeing the national economy. Now the rest of the US can suffer as much as Michigan has. Liberal thinking just doesn't make since.

And he has a tax evader for head of treasury (IRS) D.C. is just moving to Cook's County that's all.

But then again Florida's Lt. Gov. has to repay for airfare for his family. Doesn't seem like it matters R or D they're all crooks.

Considering that all key national economic positions (Treasury sec, chief economic advisor, FRB chairman and now Commerce secretary) are filled, I am not sure what you now think Granholm will be appointed to, that will allow here to "oversee the national economy" (as if any such position even existed in the US government).

In fact, Obama's current top economic team is somewhere to the right of Clinton's (one republican senator, one Bush appointee, one independent who was a registered republican for most of his life, and one pro-business democrat). I am afraid you'll have to look elsewhere to find a reason to panic at the coming socialist takeover.

Yep. Cutting military spending. That's the way to go. So in 2012 the next Conservative president will just have to rebuild it AGAIN. Like Reagan did after Jimmy Peanut Farmer Carter and Busch did after Bill Wrap That Rascal Clinton

For the record, military spending this year is subject to last year's budget. Obama's OMB has currently set a target of an 8% increase in military spending for next year, which is in line with the forecast for 2010 from the previous administration. (This of course does not include any war costs.) As for the stimulus package, as originally proposed it included ~$300 millions new spending for military construction and procurement, but apparently the compromise agreement with the Republican senators would cut those expenses. It is unclear whether they will be in the final version of the bill or not.

The drop in fuel prices alone would more than cover a 10% decrease in military spending without cutting a thing. OK, so fuel may not stay this low but where is the saved money going? Is it possible the idiots are still paying $5 a gollon for diesel and jet fuel?

Yeah but fuel prices are a contracted item. Like that airline (can't remember which one) that got a five year contract and while all the others where going through the roof this one had gotten in while it was relatively low. Of course all that has changed now. But how long do you really expect fuel to stay "low".

SloMoe I don't know what you're looking at but all I've seen and heard is cuts in military spending with this new bill. Along with a TON of pork projects. I want those rose colored glasses you have. The clear glasses I have on really suck. All I see is reality.

If by "new bill" you mean the stimulus bill currently under consideration, there is no "cutting" there, with the exception of that introduced in the senate compromise in concert with republican senators (which is really not "cutting", but "not agreeing to previously proposed spending").

As far as the defense budget goes, the Obama administration has just released its initial budget proposal, and here is a Congressional Quarterly article about it. As I said, the proposal includes an 8% increase in defense spending (war efforts excluded), and matches the Bush administration's forecast for 2010.

If "all [you]'ve seen and heard is cuts in military spending", methinks you need to update your information sources.

To be fair, it was an op-ed in the WaPo that started this lie. Alas, the author was neo-con and Iraq war cheerleader Robert Kagan. Caveat emptor, I guess.

Well, if you've followed my other posts you will see that I don't particularly care for, nor do I listen to Rush.

And from the Huffington Post. (That's a liberal paper isn't it?)
