Website hosting

I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, I did try to look for it.

I'm interested in having a website, and would like to know from those who have their own personal site or from those who use a host.

One day I will have a site of my own, however for the time being I'm interested in being part of a hosted site.
I understand that there would be fee, I would like to know which ones to look at that has been used by members of this forum.

I know that I can add photo's to this site, however I feel that I have too many and wouldn't like to clong up the site.

I look forward to hearing from you all

Cheers
Russell

Russell,
I have been experimenting with www.smugmug.com They have a two week free trial period that I am in the middle of. The main reason I was drawn to smugmug was the ease of set-up and the ability for me and others, if I choose, to order copies of my photographs.
Here is a link to my site on smugmug: http://www.erlhouston.smugmug.com/
So far I am satified and will likely sign up for a year's subsription $40 US. They have three plan options, each costing a different amount. I am only waiting now to recieve some sample prints to ascertain quality. I hope this helps and I will be eagerly reading other replies to learn if their are other well regarded hosting sites.

For my pictures site, I mainly use Picassa's web albums, they give you a gig + of web storage for free, and I like picassa as a file management tool.

For hosting my websites, I've used prohosting.com and a local (to me) ISP called xmission.com

For non-Enterprise stuff, I have used vervehosting, godaddy, 1and1.com, and a handfull of others. Verve provided the best reports and 1and1 is probably the best value (which I use for my stuff now).

Godaddy shared hosting is an incredible value, but I've heard many bad things about them. As mentioned by justuspr, I'd look into Picasa web albums -- completely free.

Unless you need to host large MySQL databases (over 100Mb), Godaddy shared hosting is fine. It'll work very well for online photo albums that aren't server-intensive.
