Canada is closed today. We Apologize for any inconvenience.

Boy, it sure would have been nice to have known about the bizarre new
pseudo-holiday you Canadians call "Family Day" BEFORE driving 3 hours
and finding all of Toronto a ghost town.

Oh well. Eventually I WILL meet a Pentax in person. Of course, at this point
I am starting to doubt that they even exist... I think maybe the idea that such
a great camera for such a good price is just a cruel joke being played on me
by the universe.

No hard feelings, eh? Your coffee is still awesome.

Any OTHER Canadian weirdness I should know about before my next trip?

Isn't today also a holiday in the US? Of course, it's a holiday more famous for enticing stores to have sales than to close...

Sorry Pat
Ontario only, and we haven't figured it out yet. Only the second year of it's existence.

Not only in Ontario; other provinces have this stat holiday as well. It started in Alberta in 1990 and has only recently spread to Ontario. Not everyone in Ontario gets this new holiday either. My company does not recognize it as we are federally regulated and don't necessarily have to abide by provincial statutes. Not that I'm complaining as we already get 10 stats in a year; more than most folks. It was a nice quiet day to work as the traffic was next to nill. Hell, it was like Christmas day driving around today; I loved it!

Yeah, I gathered that from the steady lines of very confused Ontarians (?) showing
up at IKEA (my other hope for Toronto shopping) and then leaving.

And yes, there is a holiday here too. A shopping holiday, like every REAL holiday
should be.

'Family Day' in Saskatchewan. Not sure what that means, but I didn't go to work, so it is all good.

It's not a holiday here in New Brunswick either, although there has been alot of talk about bringing the Family Day holiday here.

From what I remember being told while we were in Calgary : Family day was started by a former premier of Alberta who's son was killed. It was either a drug overdose or he was hit by a car... I've heard both and I never found out what was the real cause for the holiday.
