Hooray, Horray - Today's the Day!

My first full day of retirement. Since I finished grad school 36 years ago, I've been intensely doing organic chemistry, polymer chemistry and materials science. Now I'm going to kick back for a while and sail, play music, bike and - of course - shoot pictures.

As a retirement present, I gave myself a new DA 35/2.8 Limited which arrived yesterday at the end of the my last day of work (actually during the celebratory party - we didn't even hear the UPS man bring it to the door).

I'll play around with the new lens this afternoon and try to post some example in a day or two (I guy gets pretty busy loafing, you know).

Many, many congrats, Jer! Here's to hoping your days of leisure are as satisfying and productive as your former days of labor.

Congrats! Use the retirement wisely! (Or unwisely... I guess that's what retirement is for. )

Congrats Jer! I'll be joining you soon. I have less than 100 days of work left.

I can hardly wait!

Enjoy!

Congradulations and enjoy your retirement!

I got 15 years to go, but I am not sure I'll retire as soon as I can (enjoying my job too much!)

As I told my father when he retired: "Enjoy the fruits of your hard work, and have fun spending every last dime. The best inheritance you can leave me is the knowledge you enjoyed your retirement years."

Thanks, all, for the kind comments. It'll be fun - at least for a while - where my plan is not to have one. Eventually, I suspect I'll need to do something - maybe getting back to science but not in an industrial context. Anyway . . . . we'll see what happens.

Congratulations

Enjoy yourself. I'm only 26 so I guess I've got a little while to go before I can retire. You gonna keep the sailing coastal, or are you gonna head out for some bluewater fun? I'd like to see photos of your travels when you have them.

Congratulations and have fun.

Thanks, everyone. It'll take a while to get used to the "new reality". My wife mentioned this PM that Daylight Savings time will start in a week - I immediately thought,"great, there'll be time to ride my bike after work", before I realized there is no "after work" now.

Congratulations on your retirement!! I retired from the government on 12 May 06 (40 years), and went back to work on 15 May 06. People asked me why I didn't take any time off and I said I did -- I took the weekend off. I'll probably do retirement #2 in 3-4 years. I like my 2nd career too much right now to leave.
