He was the last person in radio who was older than the radio broadcasting industry itself, and had been in it since the very early days of what is now known as the Golden Age of radio.

Been worried about him for a long time now.

Agreed...being in the mid-40's, I listened to him quite a bit during some of his best days on radio. Wonderful man and definitely a legend.

He will be missed. After I started working night shifts about 15 years ago I didn't catch his show often. I always loved hearing "the rest of the story".

Actually, he hasn't done a show for a long time. His son, Paul Harvey Junior took over some time ago.

If you're referring to the "Rest of the Story" feature that is the case, and he took over researching and writing the feature many years ago. The "News & Comment" feature has increasingly relied on a number of substitutes for a few years.

I do hope the feature will be continued and that either Gross or Chapman, the two most commonly heard subs, land a permanent berth. Of course, despite all the imitators and mimickers there have been over the years there will never be anyone who can duplicate Paul's unique delivery. But it would be a shame to see such a long-standing and loved radio tradition die with him.

It is hard to realize that this was a man who was already working in radio (albeit on a very modest level) before such staples of the medium as Jack Benny.

It's a shame how many people, even now, get confused when you tell them "good day" as a question. I kind of had a feeling that it wouldn't be long just based upon the deterioration of his voice in the spoken commercials.

Paul Harvey was a fixture of my childhood. His program came on the radio as we were being driven to school by my parents. I always appreciated his common-sense brand of conservatism and general optimism regarding the best components of human nature. I am quite sorry to see him gone.

He was still doing some shows in the earlier to middle part of this decade. In fact, I was listening to him the day of 9/11 . . .

Are your sure? His son sounds just like Paul Sr. did. I was told the son had taken over (quitely) many years ago.

In regards to who hosted his show in recent years. From the wikipedia article:

QuoteQuote:
...Harvey did not host the show full-time after April 2008 when he came down with pneumonia. Shortly after his recovery his wife died on May 3, causing him to prolong his time away from broadcasting. Prior to his death, he voiced commercials, new episodes of The Rest of the Story and "News & Comment" during middays a few times a week, with his son Paul Jr. handling mornings...
From various sources, my understanding was that Paul Jr. had been writing the "Rest of the Story" segment for quite some time. In addition, there were extended guest stints by people such as Fred Thompson, Mick Romney, Mike Huckabee, and Tony Snow. Other than that, Paul Sr. was the main host up until this last spring.
