I know that the 16mm Zenitar FE lens has been going up in price over the last two years, but this auction is just too much:

Pentax M42 MC Zenitar 2.8/16 FISHEYE Lens NEW 5 piece - eBay (item 350166350545 end time Apr-15-09 06:56:40 PDT)

$800 starting bid with $70 shipping.

I think you are failing to realize that the auction is for FIVE zenitar FE lenses, not just one

Actually I think they are trying to sell them for $800 each (says 6 available, not lot of 6). Funny thing is you can get these for around $200 new from rugift.

And rugift items are usually overpriced...

What's weird is that he already sold one.

Ya know .... I know this is going to sound like Black Helicopter stuff, but you see these low profile but amazingly stupid ebay auctions all the time and then they SELL. I remember one from Germany a few months back were the guy got 500 dollars plus for a dropped and totally destroyed Leica body. Made no sense.

Are people doing this to transfer cash quietly around from country to country? They make an arrangement to "sell" some bit of junk, then a partner buys it and sends a big (but not TOO big) pile of money for it. It looks totally legit and in order, no one has to risk handing off dirty money, and then buyer/seller simply start over with another account. Everyone is clean, with little risk.

I know, a few hundred dollars ain't much, but if you're paying off a helper or greasing a local cop, then it might work.

Okay, I'll go back to my spy novels now....

Five pieces are 1 lens and 4 filters, which are all included in the normal Zenitar package. Even though rugift is a bit high it is nothing like the ripoff auction the OP posted about. I am glad I got mine before they really became popular, I think I paid $170 shipped and a week long wait at the local post office since the entire shipping label was in Russian and the Postmaster didn't know what to think of it.

he is selling multiple lenses at once, and doing a very poor job advertising it.

That was what I was thinking as well. On the 2nd link for $4,500, he is selling 30 copies of them. That is why shipping is $70 for 5 lens and $220 for 30 lens.

If you do the math it is about 157 each for 30 pack including shipping
and
about $174 each shipped for the 5 pack

If you look down on his recent sales, you will note he sold 1 for US$189.00 in March, so I would suggest this is for multiple lenses. You could always send a message to confirm.

I checked his sell prices vs the feedback listing for some of the items and it does look like the final sales are much more reasonably priced.

But the listing still blows my mind.

those lenses are diamond plated and platinum coated the seller forgot to mention that in the ad

and also, all these are handcrafted in an ancient historical cave. so if you buy one - you are not just buying a lens, you are buying a piece of history
