I wondered what had happened to this one. When it was originally anounced it was for a fall 08 release, but that time has come and gone. Can't say I'm overly thrilled with the book, but am curious to see what they do and the reaction it gets before I decide to go and or take any of my kids, or if we just wait for it to hit the shelves.

"Let the wild rumpus start!"

I'm a little sad to see a movie made from such a classic... Always ruins 'em. Look what Peter Jackson did to Faramir for pete's sake... (There's got to be some LOTR geek on these boards who will know what I'm jabbering about ). I do think the Bourne movies are better than the books... the only exception I can think of.

Fight Club
The Godfather
Jaws

Three pretty easy ones.

But yeah, they're rare.

Given Spike Jonze's pedigree I don't expect this to be a direct recreation of the book.

Will Metallica be doing the sound track?

I don't think Jaws was a faithful adaptation. Hooper was meant to die at the end, and I really wish he did. (Dreyfuss got the Oscar for acting? What the hell were they thinking? It wasn't terrible, but dammit, he was in with Richard Shaw's Quint. Quint - not so much a man, but a dark and terrible force of nature!)

Pretty sure it'll be Carter Burwell.

Adaptations don't necessarily have to be faithful, and are often better when they aren't. Jaws being a case in point, IMO.
