Goodbye Pontiac

They actually made some appealing cars in the last couple years (G6 GTP, G8 GTP/GXP)...too bad...the first time I've ever thought about buying one, they go under...

Good job, GM...

is getting something in return in this deal. Then if GM becomes profitable the government can sell its stake.

Can't have a giveaway. That's reserved for AIG

It's a shame GM are building a new factory in China and laying off people in the U.S.

That hurts. I still own a 1987 Yugo, and I have a lot of fun in summer time with it (of course, most of that time is spent fixing it...). Paid Can$3700.00 when it was new. Seriously, it is a Fiat 128 hatchback made in Yugolavia, and as such, it inherited the Fiat fun factor (when it works). And the 1100cc. motor is cheap on gas.

I always thought GM stood for Garbage Motors. I don't suppose public ownership will change that little aspect of their business model.

(Is is a Yugo "Sport" the one that comes with sneakers in the trunk to push it? Or is it the Yugo "Deluxe", the one that has a rear window heater to keep your hands warm when you push it in winter?)

It really depends specifically on which models one is talking about. However, the Government can't run anything very well. Case in point, look at Fannie May and Freddie Mac and their fearless leaders Raines and Johnson not to mention their congressional over site committees headed up by Frank and Dodd.

I'm guessing Corvette may be gone as well. I can't see much of a market for an electric Vette.

FIAT bought everything, Zastava (original, local name of company that made Yugo) is now 100% under FIAT ownership.

actually, pretty heavily modified FIAT 128 hatch. but yes, in essence, FIAT 128.

i've seen some fun-to-drive Yugos around here - one even with four wheel drive, turbo-charged engine, 300+ HP. not bad at all!

(unfortunately, photo is not taken with pentax camera)

How on earth did this morph into a Yugo thread, next there'll be a Delorean revival.
