What did you do--go to a midnight preview or get a pirate copy? Doesn't open until today.

I heard it's beyond belief, the best of all of them, and probably the best sci-fi film of all time.

saw it yesterday, it opened in theaters here in Croatia.

beyound belief - depends waht you believe in

best of all of them - wouldn't go so far... but it's fully action packed, more than all previous combined

probably best sci-fi movie of all time - definetly not

but it is good.

Hopefully, there no whales in it.

Any Ferengis?

Sounds like fun. I was an undergrad when the original TV show was broadcast, so I'm betting this one will bring back memories.

I really look forward to it. I think I have seen all of the ST series and movies so far.

Out of curiosity, what are your favorite Science Fiction movies?

Mine are:

Solaris (I like both, the old and new, but most of all I love the book)
Star Wars: Empire strikes back (no comments needed, I guess)
Twelve monkeys (top SciFi thriller)
Planet of the Apes (2001)

It's not the best SciFi movie ever (which is a matter of opinion anyway). What is does represent is a reboot of the franchise. The new actors planing the old characters keep the sprit of said character alive, in some cases it's almost an erie channeling. McCoy is this way. For me it's easily among the best Star Trek films. It follows the Trek cannon closely enough that current fans are more likely to embrace it, but is also has a ton of newbie appeal. If you are familiar with the original series and the characters it's fun to try and find the references and old ways that the characters interacted. For example, Kirk still has his trademark shoulder slap.

If you like Trek defiantly see it. It the franchise is going to survive on the big screen this is the path. Drag your non-Trek buddies as well to indoctrinate them.

Pretty excited about it, from the awesome trailer to the overwhelmingly positive reviews.

Gotta wait for my friend to get back from Baltimore on Monday before I see it, though.

Fave SF movies:
Blade Runner
Primer
12 Monkeys
Altered States
Aliens (though really more of an action movie)
The Abyss

I am looking forward to it as well. Love the original sereis despite the obvious corny scenes. Does the new James Tiberius Kirk do any drop kicks (his favorite move in the original fight scenes haha).

Favorite Sci-Fi umm so many ... in no partiuclar order of course more recent have better special efforts which is the whole point

Matrix (first one)
Armageddon
Independance Day
Star Wars (Empire strikes back)
The Thing (1982 with Kirk Russel)
Terminator (Original)

Honorable mention and much more of a comedy and a parady on Star Trek is Galaxy Quest very funny ....

so many more ...............

Been looking forward to this since they announced the project. I'm a looong time Trek fan. I even enjoy most of the really bad shows - though Insurrection should have been left on the cutting room floor...

Favorite Sci-Fi flicks? Don't know if I have "a" favorite, but here are several non-ST I enjoy re-watching:
2001 & 2010
Close Encounters
Contact
Blade Runner
Man from Earth
13th Floor
StarGate

Best SF films ever? Depending on your definition I'd have to include:

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956 USA)
The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957 USA)
La Jetée (1962 France)
The Manchurian Candidate (1962 USA)
Dr Strangelove (1964 UK)
Alphaville (1965 France)
Quatermass and the Pit (1967 UK)
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968 UK)
THX 1138 (1970 USA)
Solaris (1972 USSR)
The Last Wave (1977 Australia)
Alien (1979 USA)
Blade Runner (1982 USA)
Videodrome (1983 Canada)
Brazil (1985 UK)
La Double vie de Véronique (1991 France/Poland)
Twelve Monkeys (1995 USA)
Last Night (1998 Canada)
Gamera: Revenge of Iris (1999 Japan)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004 USA)

It's hard to imagine any Star Trek film could make the cut. It's all been downhill since the original series.

I saw it and I think it is exactly what the franchise needs. JJ Abrams hit this one out of the park. Best SciFi movie ever? I wouldn't go that far. But it was a very good movie. Definitely going to be one of the best movies this summer out of a summer full of movies with great potential.
