This is tough.

Disclaimer: Written by a proud Dad.

My son, always a keen walker, said some time ago that he was doing a desert walk. I must admit to NOT fully understanding what he was getting himself into....but I do now.

I am incredibly proud of him and the effort he has put into this. My utmost respect (and best wishes) goes not only to my son, Jason (contestant No 160), but every entrant. A truly superhuman test of endurance, both physical & mental.

PS: did I say I was proud of my boy!!

nah....he's a nikon man. Hey, as a parent you can only set the example, if they follow or not is their choice.
I would doubt he is carrying any camera (also has a Lumix p&s), as they have to carry everything, so weight is a major issue for them.

Tomorrow they have 100km to deal with, think a few of them will be camping out. The last day is 25 km across sand dunes...a nice fun way to finish off.

damned if I could do it.

Amen to that. All the best to your son and all the contestants involved. Tough probably does not describe what they are going to go through, or have been through. The toughest thing i have to go through in my life was an 11 hour bus ride in Burma and i was happy i made it through that.

25kms across sand dunes.. holy christ. Indeed hats off to him.

haha nice it is a big ol'e hat and the glass with probably hold ohhh let's say 12oz but it will hold 12oz many times haha.

I hope so Australia / New Zealand is on the bucket list for sure. And it will be half the price without dragging the rug rats whom are well old enough now if they want to come the need to pay

The last leg is under way. Jason starts in 90th position. some 25% of the original 214 starters have dropped out.
Unfortuneatley for Jason (& a number of others) he is injured and carrying on courtesy of some pain killers, determined to finish.
Fortuneatley for Jason (& a number of others) the last leg is only 10km....and they have the lure of cold beer & pizza waiting for them at the finish line.

If the last 10k doesn't get em, then the beer on top of the pain killers surely will.

An amazing effort by an amazing group of people. I am applauding.
Cheers
Grant (...did I say I wa......)

Well... with the temptation of beer and pizza at the finish line, who wouldn't run across a desert?
