Well I can't argue with that. But I think if I were President of a South American country, the constant pressures and threats by corporations like Bechtel and organisations like the World Bank would probably make me dangerous.

It's really common here for people to lose their government, semi government or civil service jobs when a new regime is voted in.
If you are high enough in the system and are on the wrong side of the politics of the elected government (not being a member of the party in power is enough where I live) then you stand a good chance of being turfed out.
It isn't right, but I suspect the same thing happens in every democratic system, even yours.

Wheatfield,

He was working for a "private" company which is now relative in Venezuela. I suppose he could have signed a card saying he was a Chavez supporter and kept his job.

He applied for residency in January and it went through earlier this month. Actually, it was early December because it was before Christmas. I advised his mom to have him do so.

So what's his job.

It sound like you friend was fired by the company for his beliefs, and not forced out of work by the government. I've heard of similar threats being made against americans by their bosses if they didn't vote for a certain politician.

Also, I like how your story went from you had multiple friends that were forced out of work by the chavez regime, to you had one friend forced out of work by the chavez regime, to what you are saying now which is you had one friend who was forced out of work and also had a hit put out on him.

It's all very funny.
