FYI Firefox 3.5.1 still has the oversaturated colours bug

I used till yesterday Firefox 3.0.11 and all was fine, I had not upgraded to 3.5 as I heard it has some colour management problems, which was supposed to be corrected in version 3.5.1

Well I yesterday upgraded to 3.5.1 and now all images have very over saturated colours, when seen through that browser! I use Windows XP.

Does anyone else have this problem? It effectively makes this browser unusable to photographers!

Looking around with the help of Google, it seems that this bug only affects certain monitors colour profiles, so some have problems, some do not.

FF does not seem to be capable to manage colours defined with version 4 colour profiles, yet!

I am having no problems with colours on FF 3.5.1, I don't recall seeing a difference in 3.5.

Have you enabled support for colour profiles in Firefox? By default colour management is disabled.

Yes, color management is enabled. Switching it on or off does not change anything, still bad colours!

Okay, I have found a cure!

I simply had to find a new profile to my specific monitor - I found an older version profile from here and after the switch, my good colours are back again!

Shame that the new FF does not handle all version of colour profiles! I am sure they will fix this soon enough!

If you are interested, read more in here too! That is where I found the crucial tip!

Write to your address bar about:config and find the entry gfx.color_management.mode and set it either to 1 or 0.

Setting to 1 = enabled will improve the colours in any monitor.

This tip I learned my self here in the forum, can't remember from whom, though, but thanks belong to that person!

Anything non zero means enabled

Sorry about the dragons! ?

BTW, on the contrary of previous versions of FF the new 3.5.x has colour management enabled by default.

Firefox 3.5.2 (now in beta) claims to have fixed rendering for images with ICC profiles. You may want to try it out if you haven't already.

I don't quite get that test page, but my previous profile, which did not work on 3.5.1 works again in 3.5.2 so there is definitely an improvement done.

In that page the test image seems to suggest I had only v2 compatibility, but when I uploaded the associated PDF version of the test, that gives another result, suggesting that my browser's pdf plugin is in fact v4 compatible. Go figure! The device matters!

For me it is enough that my monitor now shows best colours with my original profile, I had experienced as best (Kodak made). So I can through the downloaded spyder profiles away now.
