Police Intervention??

I thought I would share my experience this morning while walking down by the harbour.

I was taking some photos by the rock breakwall, when I was fronted by two policemen on pushbikes.
At first I was a bit taken aback, trying to think why the would want to talk to me. Thoughts came flooding to mind of the stories told here of police stopping photographers taking certain pictures.

However, turns out one of them was interested in buying a new camera for his wife, and he wanted my opinions. Though he was saying a lot about Canon and Nikon, I pushed the case for Pentax (of course!).

A very interesting discussion took place and we parted very good friends.

It was different anyway

Just thought I would share this little story for interest.

Folks are too apt to forget there are people inside those blue uniforms.

Well I certainly hope this little discussion does not result in more superior optics in speed cameras.

I must say, that is one of the more pleasant sounding conversations i've heard come from a person who upholds the law.

Police are like every other section of society, a few bad apples and all that.

Perhaps the police are tired of being involved in a socialist organization and crave the chance to be in a private company?

More and more it seems, those people in blue uniforms are willing to act like asses. It's always best to give them the benefit of the doubt, but also important to remember that they may not be acting either in your best interest or according to the laws.

And the big problem is that when the are ass-holes, they have guns and all the other cops back up the Fraternal Brotherhood no matter what. I believe in treating them with the same professional courtesy as I treat other people even if they are being unprofessional. I have found that most of the time, the municipal police are the most likely to have a chip whereas deputy sheriffs and state police are usually courteous and professional.

Good to hear your positive experience Bruce. I imagine it is probably the norm but as with most things, we tend to hear about negatives far more often than we hear about positives.

Police are people too.

Just goes to show your (most people's) biases when approached by Police - automatically everyone thinks "bad" things will happen. In Canada a normal person has 2 direct interactions with police in their life, if one of those is "bad" ie. they get arrested or ticketed, then they usually apply that interaction to every police officer they see, and they will repeat the story countless times to countless people. No wonder there's a thin blue line.

I'm glad you had a positive interaction with the Police, tell your friends.

Have to say when I brought my kid and the wife home from the hospital I had to go in to work the next day. Did something stupid in the rental car. Pasco Sheriff was real nice and just gave me a warning. In the last 15 years I've been stopped 2 times and have to say they were nice. Doing they're job but nice enough. I think it has a lot to do with your attitude towards them first. Most of the police I do work for are pretty decent folks.

Not that you were implying anything wrong Bruce..... My thought that policing is like social service/child warefare.....there are too many eager to say you did something wrong. It is a tough job at times....and if you feel you need to "get them" then perhaps you should step forward....go back to school and step into the uniform. They are someone's Dad/Mom or kid...not some monster out to do something wrong.....

Bruce....I hope they liked your Pentax ...and you mentioned Pentax Forums
