there was an external finder made for the lens too

Yeah, but external finders are a pain in the rear since you have to focus in one viewfinder and compose in another, like on the Barnack bodies.

I am curious... the screwmount version looks quite a bit bigger -- did they just add on an extension on the rear of the Pentax version in order to accomodate for the greater registration distance of the lens? (Compared to "native" Leica lenses that is...)

I don't even know if its the same optical formula. everyone assumes so because of the obvious connection to the K mount 43mm limited, but I have seen no specifics on this.

I am fairly certain that the optical design is the same, recall reading it on RFF at some point.

That was made for the Leica screw mount rangefinders and included a rangefinder with it as a set. It originally sold for ~ $400 if it could be found as shown above by Seamuis.

In fact, there is one currently on fleabay.
