As I often do, I will add to the discussion with a joke!

A bunch of guys are sitting around in a pub, when, suddenly, the doors fly open and an old man walks in.

He drops to the floor, does fifty pushups, lifts up the pool table with one hand, then does three backflips and lands perfectly.

"You see that?" he says to all the patrons, "I can do all that because I don't drink. I don't smoke, I run fifteen miles in the morning. I don't eat unhealthy food, and I don't gamble. I could fight all of you with one arm tied behind my back!"

Everyone in the pub eyes him up. Then the old man adds, "And because I don't do any of that," he says, "today, I'm celebrating my hundredth birthday!"

One of the guys slides off his barstool, downs his beer, and staggers over to the old man, and says, "How?"

exactly!

next time you're at a macdonalds, ask for water isntead of that half a liter of coke.

and again, its okay to indulge once in awhile.. but if you do NOT live an active life, then ANY indulgence is bad for you.
I too realized this when I was at work and my stomach started hitting the keyboard shelf. I was like "holy crap - I've got a problem here."

I stopped drinking sugared soda and lost 10 lbs. in about a month.
I've been slowly losing ever since, by way of diet and daily exercise, and a change in my horrible eating habits. Basically, I was just eating way too much at every meal.

I have always been fortunate. I can't run very far but I can walk for ever. Plus my job involves a lot of walking at times. However, there are people that it is more complicated than "calories in and calories out." There is a little thing called "physiology" and associated biochemistry and molecular biology that tie into METABOLISM. Research hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism for example.

Now Blue you know that's totally wrong. The ONLY thing that matters is calories. And to be accurate it's really a kilocalorie.
