The Rapiers - 1961

Youtube playlist: The Rapiers 1961

A complete album of songs by the modern British Beat band The Rapiers.
Though recorded in the late 1980's to these ears it sounds just like 1961.

The instrumental tracks are terrific, obviously influenced by The Shadows et al. On the vocal tracks
lyrics are a little lame and melodramatic - but innocent and sincere - just like early '60's pop songs!

Chris

Yes, interesting the way they survived Peter Gabriel leaving.

Collins filled in while drumming as a stop gap measure and didn't expect that after all the auditions for replacements, he'd be asked to continue. There had been drummers like Levon Helm and Don Henley who'd sung, but they weren't frontmen, either.

I've been watching the TV show "Suits", and discovered this guy (and his band). I'm not even sure how to define what genre this fits into - if any... but I love it

TV show theme music.

Incidentally, this was a suggested video after watching the band.

Oooh, no... I respectfully disagree. In any case, that track was part of Tycho's released work before it was ever used on "Suits", which has a pretty eclectic soundtrack. It's worth listening to the "Suits Music" youtube channel - some great stuff (and some not-so-great ).

...and get this

It’s my understanding the Mustang was a fairly ordinary airplane until it was fitted with the Rolls Royce Merlin engine.

Which reminds me of another outstanding track - famous for its part in the movie "Risky Business" and, more recently, an episode of "Mr Robot", and often considered to be merely soundtrack music... but actually one of Tangerine Dream's best tracks
