There was no doubting their talent, especially Ray, but IIRC a ban from touring the States because of a drug conviction meant they lost momentum and motivation, and never had the opportunities or success of contemporaries like the Stones, The Who, The Beatles, etc.

I did not know this. Ended up with many of their albums. Low Budget was the first one I bought.

I'm sorry clackers but the more I think about this the more I think the Kinks must have been set up. If they actually used drugs you would think that it would seep into their music occasionally. As far as I know this never happened.

BTW, the Stones were terrified by what happened to The Kinks, which is why they kicked Brian Jones out of the band when he was facing conviction ahead of a planned tour.
