I saw Taj in concert 12-15 years ago in which he played from both schools. It was memorable.

I didn't realize Cory Wong had been (or still is) with the Fearless Flyers. I enjoy listening to both groups. I tend to categorize their music as Jazz Funk.

I have all 3 Fearless Flyers EPs, what a great team of players, especially Nate Smith, Ace of Aces, on drums.

I consider both Cory Wong and the Fearless Flyers to be part of the loosely organized but highly collaborative Vulfpeck, the brainchild of Jack Stratton. You can easily fall down a rabbit hole of great music once you discover the wide range of work the members and partners of Vulfpeck have put out in the past few years.

It's gotten to the point where I will likely buy tickets to any show from the above if it's within a few hours of my house.

This album came out 35 years ago. A friend of mine had gotten a cassette version when he visited England, and loaned it to me. It still sounds great through my speakers.

Getting ready to attend a dinosaur arena rock show on Friday. I didn't love any of these bands, but I know most of their songs by heart due to my ill spent youth of cruising around with the radio on. Even if I can't change the channel when the power ballads come on, it's a chance to get to rock out and hold lighters up with my concert going pal of over 3 decades, the last show we saw together was Iron Maiden just before the COVID shut down fun.
We'll see these guys
and these guys
and these guys are the worst offenders of the sugary ballad, so I really hope they play this song to keep me from going into diabetic shock.

I must have seen these guys a half dozen times back in the early 70s. They opened for almost every major band that came into town (Des Moines, IA). They rocked back in those days, and you could always count on a cool Gary Richrath solo or two

For any interested parties, the concert I attended on Friday was pretty good, I certainly felt glad that I had gone, and was a bit surprised above how good the bands sounded live. No one phoned it in, none of the performers were seemed too old to rock and roll, and since a few of the original members were in their 70s, that's saying something.

I mentioned I was not a big fan of any of the acts, so I feel pretty impartial when the three bands I listed above, Styx certainly sounded the best, a truly first class show all the way around.

Driving home after the show, this song came on the radio. Bonnie Raitt is a treasure, and damn if this song didn't stick in my head into this morning.

This song came into my head this morning for some reason, and once again, I couldn't remember who it was or even what the song was called. I had to search snippets of lyrics I could remember to get the answer. I had heard it just a few times on the radio around when it came out in the mid-2000s, and it just stuck with me. I love how the energy picks up in the second half of the song.

A mesmerizing track from a newly-discovered artist (for me) - Kathleen Edwards

I commute past the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre at the Austin Hospital a couple of times a week, may she rest in peace.

Indie singer-guitarist Juliana Hatfield didn't care about embarrassment to her alternative credentials doing a whole album of Livvy covers, her admiration was that great.

The clip above shows Adrian Belew on guitar, so does this one. One of the guitars has 5 necks.

You just missed our big Laurie Anderson exhibition at the Hirshhorn. One of the pieces, a gallery sized installation, is going to stay up permanently, however.

And I used to have that Taj album, old school. Very popular back in the day, then off the radar....
