Wow, that's quite a turntable! I'm giving Gwenno a first listen right now. I like it.

This is one of my work-from-home afternoons, and those tend toward happy audio-background feasting while I do my coding. During the work day, there's no wife to want the TV on.

Simon & Garfunkel, Bridge Over Troubled Water, and Ravel’s Daphnis & Chloe, with the LSO under Valery Gergiev. These are HD FLAC downloads at 192 and 96khz/24 bit to see whether I can hear any difference between them and ‘standard’ CD rips at 44.1khz/16 bit.

Hi Dave.

Windows media player on my Windows 10 installation will play FLACs (even the hi-res ones), but on my PC, I routinely use Foobar2000 (free), which will rip my CDs to FLAC, WAV or mp3 and then serve as a music archive, which is good as I fell out of love with iTunes years ago. I don't think that you really hear any potential improvement over the normal FLAC encoding from CD via the PC, as it's then processed through the computer's sound card; mine's not that good. For normal playback through a hifi, I play FLACs from a Fiio X5-II high-res music player via the line out direct to a Marantz Class A amp and driving 40-year-old Leak speakers (I love 'em) and a Tannoy sub-woofer.

Cheers,
Martyn
