Currently it's "the Moody Boys" and the "journey into Dubland" EP

One of Jimmy Cauty's (from the KLF) side projects from back in the day.

But, tomorrow i'm heading off to a record market, so hopefully i'll be listening to some fresh stuff tomorrow evening.

Emmylou Harris and the King of Sweden listening to "Emmylou" by First Aid Kit

First Aid Kit - Emmylou (Live på Polar Music Prize 2015) - YouTube
Sitting 4th Row waiting for Hot Rize to come on stage. ‘The Sheldon’ 660 seat Concert Hall is the old (1912) meeting place of the Ethical Society of St. Louis, with perfect natural acoustics, perfect for a Bluegrass concert. Our friend Gary knows and has played with them often (and with Emmy Lou Harris). Very cool to be here.

Bumped into a HS classmate at Intermission - that was 45 years ago - who went to Colorado College when these guys were starting up, playing bars in Denver and Colorado Springs. Small world.

Saw this at the weekend, and for a project authorized and driven by the band themselves, it's no puff piece, and is a good drama on top, led by Rami Malek from TV's 'Mr Robot'.

What seems unnecessary is the movie's claim that Queen's amazing Live Aid performance was driven by Freddie's revelation to his bandmates a week beforehand that he was HIV positive. From a scriptwriter's PoV, it makes for a good tale - Mercury's rousing stagecraft in 1985-86 (Brian May said he could make anyone standing at the back of a stadium feel connected) was due to pouring what was left of his life into entertaining. But Freddie's partner, who was doing vigil when he died, says there was no diagnosis until 1987.

In any case, it's hard not to be moved and impressed by this pic.

Went to a couple of record markets over the weekend, only came home with 2, one of which I bought on a whim to see what it was like.

The whim one was Tangerine Dream - Cyclone

Having now listened to it, I can say that I do quite like the musical/instrumental parts, a nice textured sound.

However..... the vocals on side A are not my thing. Lyrically they seem a bit naff, but it's more that the singer's voice seems to be trying too hard to be powerful, which doesnt really suit the music accompanying it.
Combine that with a mixing that make the vocals quite loud, and it drowns out a lot of the music.

I feel it may have worked a lot better (to my tastes) if the vocals were softened a bit, and their volume dropped to a reasonable level so as to not shove through the music.

I really like this new Unknown Mortal Orchestra album. Reminds me of 70's Miles Davis a little. Yeah cat.

A bit of local product. Well, he was born in California, but we'll claim him because he's good.
