Lucy Jinx a friend's current project, he is insanely productive this band started last fall. He is better known as a writer, he wrote the novel Pontypool -- and the screenplay, and some of the music in the film...., one of the 4 bands i will see tonight , I can't keep up with his output sometimes , last time I saw him was a spoken word of a work in progress

I've been listening to a lot of "The Divine Comedy" recently. I don't know if Neil Hannon is well known outside of the UK... If not, it's difficult to describe his songwriting. Quite a lot of it is tongue in cheek and humorous, and the musical styles are varied and intentionally quite dated and kitsch. But he's one heck of a songwriter, a very capable musician and a very down-to-earth guy. You have to listen to the lyrics of the songs to get the most out of them

One of my favourites is "At the Indie Disco"... first, the original recorded version:

... and now a really good live version, just Neil singing and playing piano, at a venue in Dublin, Ireland:

I’ll always associate him with the Father Ted theme!

I didn't know he wrote that, Tim... but now that I think about it, I can totally recognise the influences (actually, the guitar sound too)!!

I really enjoyed 'Bohemian Rhapsody', but frankly it contains lots of things Freddie would have a right to complain about. Ranging from convenient omissions and misleading retellings to outright lies, they make up his bandmates' side of the story. Roger Taylor released a solo album long before Mercury did, and so too Brian May, on this fun collaboration (a soundtrack for a Japanese cartoon) with Eddie Van Halen.
