I've been listening to a lot of "The Divine Comedy" recently. I don't know if Neil Hannon is well known outside of the UK... If not, it's difficult to describe his songwriting. Quite a lot of it is tongue in cheek and humorous, and the musical styles are varied and intentionally quite dated and kitsch. But he's one heck of a songwriter, a very capable musician and a very down-to-earth guy. You have to listen to the lyrics of the songs to get the most out of them
