An amazing man. On tour, in each city he would try to schedule a lesson with a local guitar teacher, he thought you could learn *something* in music and life out of every person you met. When asked by admiring fellow guitarists about his guitar/amp/speakers/effects setup, he wouldn't let the conversation finish without grilling them about their own setup, and their reasons apart from affordability.
Ozzy has said in interviews that Rhoads disapproved of his copious drug use and mood swings, and was probably going to leave his band in the next year anyway and do a degree in classical music at a university. He was going to be entirely happy turning his back on the money and trappings.
