I remember being in a literally and physically miserable, dreary, and dangerous place when I first heard this song. The sound of the song and the voice stopped me in my tracks, and lifted my spirits.

A version of this was the theme to Ricky Gervais' The Office, and Rod Stewart also had a hit with it back in the day, but the original's terrific, too, with some harmonica and Hendrix-like rhythm guitar.

Great song. I like the stereophonics version too don't know if it is that version used on the Ricky Gervais show

The New Zealand cover band Think Pink also do a good job, they have the polystyrene blocks building 'The Wall' (and falling down) during the performance.

Probably a dream job for a guitarist, playing David Gilmour solos each night.
